As temperatures continue to fall across Punjab due to ongoing cold wave conditions and dense fog, the Punjab government has reviewed winter preparedness measures and taken steps to ensure safety across essential services and student welfare.
In view of the prevailing weather, the Punjab School Education Department has announced winter holidays for all government, private, aided and recognised schools from December 24 to December 31, 2025, to safeguard students from extreme cold conditions and travel risks associated with dense fog and low visibility.
Officials said that district administrations have been instructed to remain alert and coordinate closely with health, power supply and municipal departments to prevent disruptions in essential services. Special attention has been given to health facilities, emergency response teams, and measures to protect vulnerable sections, including the elderly and daily-wage workers.
Health authorities have also been advised to prepare for an increase in seasonal illnesses, and advisories for preventive measures have been circulated to local health centres. Power and water departments are monitoring supply arrangements, particularly in early morning and late night hours when temperatures dip sharply.
Residents are urged to check official updates and weather forecasts regularly, and parents are advised to prepare for the winter break schedule announced by schools in the state.
